ENGINEERING SUPPORT
Before the machinery design review
Agree what is being reviewed
State the machine configuration, its intended use and the interfaces included in the review. A discussion that mixes prototypes, released products and future options can create ambiguous conclusions.
Bring the people and evidence
Include people who understand the machinery, its tasks and the protective decisions. Bring the current drawings, risk records and relevant tests. Document the revision of every record used.
Ask questions that can be answered
Replace broad statements such as “safety checked” with a specific question about a task, hazard or design measure. Record whether the evidence supports a decision or whether another review or test is needed.
Close with a usable record
Summarise decisions, assumptions and actions. Each action should have an owner. Revisit the record when the design or intended use changes. The review note should make sense to an engineer who was not in the meeting.
This field note illustrates engineering-project practice. It does not set legal requirements or determine whether machinery conforms.
