Provenance in practice

Evidence should travel with the product

An organisational note on retaining context when goods change hands.

Two histories to connect

The product has a movement history. Its evidence has a record history. A useful provenance workflow connects them so that a reviewer can tell which information supported a particular handover.

Keep dates, source identifiers and lot references understandable. Do not let a filename become the only explanation for a record’s meaning.

Make corrections traceable

When a record changes, preserve what changed, why it changed and which decisions need another look. A replacement file should not silently remove the context used in an earlier review.

This is an illustrative organisational approach, not a statement of regulatory obligations.
