The right dinner length is not the shortest possible service. It is the time guests need to eat, talk and listen without feeling held at the table.
Start with the service style
A plated three-course menu often takes between one hour forty-five minutes and two hours fifteen minutes. Family-style dining can feel more social, but passing dishes and clearing shared plates needs its own time.
Place speeches between natural pauses
One welcome speech before the starter can settle the room. Two or three short speeches between the main course and dessert work well because the kitchen already needs a service pause.
Protect the transition to dancing
Coordinate cake, first dance and entertainment setup before the day. Avoid a long gap after dinner when guests are ready for the next part of the evening.
